LABIAPLASTY

WHAT IS LABIAPLASTY?

Labiaplasty in Toronto is a cosmetic procedure that reduces the size and corrects the shape of larger or irregular inner labia. The Vulva (genital lips or labia) is associated with fertility, reproduction, sex, genital confidence, and overall self-confidence. It is also an emotional part of your being. The labia, especially the inner labia, come in many shapes and sizes. Some women have inner genital lips that are enlarged, irregular, and protrude far beyond the level of the outside labia—this can be problematic and severely embarrassing. Sometimes both inner labia are very wide and/or long (this is called labial hypertrophy), and sometimes the right and left inner labia are different in size and shape and seem malformed. Some women are born with enlarged labia, while others develop enlarged labia over time. How does this affect you? While some women are not concerned with having enlarged labia, many women don’t feel comfortable or confident with the size or shape of their labia. They find large labia effects exercise, sex, wearing tight clothing, thongs, and swimwear. Keeping the area clean can be problematic when the labia are large. A common complaint is the need to continuously adjust your underwear to feel comfortable. When it comes to intimacy and sex, large labia can be embarrassing for some women, who then avoid intimacy, don’t want their partners to touch them or see them naked, develop low libido, and encounter relationship problems due to their avoidance or lack of intimacy. Others complain of decreased sensitivity due to excess skin and folds getting in the way. Many women also request surgical repair when their labia are asymmetrical, or especially large and abnormal-looking. A simple reduction of enlarged or abnormal-looking inner labia for women, who require it, is sensible and reasonable.

PROCEDURE

WHAT IS LABIA REDUCTION SURGERY?
Labia reduction surgery, labiaplasty, and vulvaplasty are terms used to describe a relatively minor surgical procedure that involves removing excess tissue to decrease the size and change the shape of longer and/or larger labia minora (inside genital lips). This does not interfere with sexual satisfaction, orgasm, or the sensitivity of the labial skin. At Meridia Gynecology we perform safe procedures of Labiaplasty in Toronto that decrease the size of enlarged labia minora. There are various surgical techniques for this problem and the correct choice depends on the unique characteristics of your anatomy. We realize that this can be a very delicate and sensitive problem to talk about. That is why we adopt a pragmatic approach for you to tell us what bothers you. In this way, you can feel more confident and less vulnerable to discuss this often an intimate and very private concern.

WHY DO SOME WOMEN REQUEST SURGERY TO MAKE THEIR LABIA SMALLER?

Some women have larger labia minora (inside genital lips), also called Labia Hypertrophy. Many women find the larger, protuberant, asymmetric, or irregular appearance cosmetically undesirable; Most women would prefer it if their inner labia did not protrude beyond the level of the outside labia; Some women feel discomfort when walking, cycling, exercising, or wearing certain types of underwear (like thongs) or tight pants; Some women feel embarrassed to shower at a gym for example, where others can see their protruding labia; There can be personal hygiene problems; Some women are troubled by having large labia and indicate that it causes them pain and discomfort during intercourse or severe embarrassment. For some, this loss of sexual confidence and/or a lack of sexual enjoyment can lead to avoidance of intimate relationships. IN such cases, opting for Labiaplasty Surgery in Toronto is an ideal approach.

IS SURGERY NECESSARY?

There is evolving interest in maintaining and improving genital health both physically and emotionally. All women have a natural and unique body shape; similarly, there is variation in the size of the inner labia. However, if your inner labia are too long or unusual in appearance, it is unnecessary to live with this and feel embarrassed or unhappy with the way you look and feel. There is a solution involving relatively minor surgery that is done at our clinic. “Concerns about the appearance of labia minora extending beyond the labia majora can often be alleviated by explaining that variation in size is normal. Still, labial reduction should be considered for cases in which such aesthetic concerns influence the psychological and social well-being of the patient.” (Functional and Aesthetic Labia Minora Reduction Sylvester M. Maas, M.D., and J. Joris Hage, M.D., Ph.D.)

THE LAST WORD

This can be a very sensitive and personal issue, and as such, we want you to consider your options carefully before you decide to proceed with Labiaplasty in Toronto. In our experience, women are happy and relieved after having the procedure and exude newfound confidence. It is most common to feel more easily aroused, and have increased quality of orgasm/satisfaction. The new appearance and sensation of the inner labia can change the way you feel about your genital area and help you reconnect sexually.

BOTOX

Feel better about the way you look… smooth out wrinkles for a younger, more relaxed look!

Why use Botox?

Botox can soften facial wrinkles and folds, such as frown lines, forehead wrinkles, lines around the mouth, and crow’s feet around the eyes. etc. It can also be used to create a non-surgical brow lift and reduces neck wrinkles and bands. It is often used together with skin fillers such as Restylane to prolong and enhance its effect in decreasing the appearance of wrinkles.

How is it done?

Facial muscle action is responsible for wrinkles. Botox is injected into these facial muscles, causing relaxation and smoothing of wrinkles. Several injections are usually used to ensure that each muscle contributing to the wrinkles is adequately relaxed.

Is Botox Safe?

Botox was licensed for use in Canada in 1990 and there have been millions of injection treatments performed since then.

What can I expect during a treatment?

A tiny amount of Botox is injected into the muscles around the facial lines. A very small needle is used to inject the Botox, so you will feel very small pinches as this happens. Because the treatment does not affect the sensory nerves you will continue to have normal feeling in the treated areas. No freezing is required and you may resume normal activities immediately following the treatment. Some patients experience a slight bruising at the injection site which will go away in a few days and can be covered up with make-up.

Who can be treated with Botox?

Botox can be used on any healthy individual. Patients who are pregnant, nursing or have a neurological disease should not be treated with Botox. A preliminary consultation with the dermatologist will determine if you are eligible for Botox.

How long does it last?

Usually, one treatment usually lasts for 4 months. We recommend follow-up treatments at that time. After several treatments, the effects may last longer.
